The governor of Peru's Moquegua regions, Cristala Constantinides, demanded the intervention of Virginia Borra, Peru's Minister for Women, to help the situation of about 2000 settlers still living in the neighborhood of the ash spitting Ubinas volcano. Settlers expressed they have been abandoned.
According to regional authorities the volcano's activity has become even more worrisome during the last days, reason why the region remains on "yellow alert".
Constantinides said the ashes have now covered wide areas of agricultural cultivation harming farmer's livelihood and health. Families complain about respiratory diseases and eye infections and also demand food and medicine shipments.
