The father of Ada blamed his daughter's defense counsel for the guilty verdict because they were "inactive". He also complained again that they received no support from Peru's government.
"Our hands and feet were tied from the beginning. We were trying to look for support but nobody listened to us. Meanwhile, the prosecution says Kyle's head injuries were consistent with a fall from a sixth floor, but that young baby survived three more days from that blow. Also, there were other details given but Ada's lawyer didn't question any of these, he said.
"Ada had two court-appointed counsels assigned to the case and they told us that they would start working on the appeal documents and that they will call us to collaborate on how to proceed, he added.
“The sentence is mere speculation because the presented evidence did not proof her guilt. But they found her guilty because they wanted to, although the evidence shows the opposite. We did not find any culpability of our daughter, if she had done it, no matter how painful that would be, we would have acknowledged it. They have not demonstrated that Ada killed the baby. We have nothing against the parents because we can understand; we are parents, too."

what I don't understand is: when was the death penalty taken off the table? Or was it never on the table?
And where is Court TV when you need them. No information about this trial whatsoever. Weird.

As for the death penalty, it is generally reserved for cases with an intent to kill...while they found her guilty I don't believe (from the coverage I have read) that anyone believes she intended to kill the baby, but rather the baby died as a result of her actions and inaction. The decision may have been left up to the jury.
The other issue regarding the death penalty is that any time an individual is sentenced to death appeal is automatic and at the expense of the state, making death penalty cases rather costly. The judge may not have given this as an option in order to avoid this.
Had she reported the accident immediately and the baby still died, she then would not have been charged with capital murder, but rather criminal neglect resulting in death (I believe is the proper term), and the death penalty would never have been an option, plus her sentence would have been years, not life. She has been convicted more on the basis of her silence than on the death of the child, it appears...

The only problem with your logic above is that it wasn't an accident. She says the baby fell off of the counter the day before and she bumped his head on the door frame earlier that day. But the medical evidence shows many blows to the baby's head, around 6 to 10 separate hits.
This woman was convicted because the evidence illustrated that this baby was violently beaten to death. He was hit so hard that he was blinded. Babies don't go blind when they bump their head.
Unfortunately, this nanny murdered the baby that she was supposed to be taking care of. Although you don't like to think that things like this happen, sadly it is true sometimes.

Well i believe this story is one with many questions and confusions as to which verdict is more truthful..... but the evidence found is somewhat of an assumption we weren't there to see the actions taken by the nanny but by inferring and testing carefully the evidence i believe the nanys actions lead her to where she is now...prison.
