(LIB-wb) -- As of today 15,000 houses in Northern Peru were fumigated to prevent dengue fever and malaria, informed the coordinator of this health program, Ramon Medina Silva.
The initiative, which will cost S/. 586,000 Soles, was launched by the Regional Government of Tumbes and Peru's National Health Institute. The timing of this preventive measure is crucial because the rain season will soon arrive in this area, boosting reproduction of transmitting mosquitos.
Medina Silva said that exterminators have already covered the towns of Matapalo, Papayal, La Cruz, Corrales and San Jacinto.
The program's goal is to fumigate 32,360 houses throughout the department of Tumbes, located on the border to Equador, by November 15.
