(LIP-wb) -- José María Aznar, ex-Prime Minister of Spain (1996-2004), met with Peru's President Alan Garcia at the Government Palace in Lima yesterday. Aznar recommended continuing the political path of his predecessor Alejandro Toledo.
Aznar, ex-leader of Spain's conservative
Partido Popular, said that “my hope is that Peru follows the successful course taken by the government of Toledo. It's not easy to change things and I recommend to be persistent in politics that give good results. I wish Alan Garcia and his government success”.
He arrived in Peru two days ago to receive the title of Honorary Professor by the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences and to attend an economic convention.
Aznar also met with Lourdes Flores and Spanish industralists and businessmen in Lima.
During an interview on the Peruvian TV program “La hora N”, Aznar noticed that there are countries in Latin America that “have decided to fall in the claws of Populism” and “they make strange alliances with other countries from distant cultures”.
After his meeting with Garcia, Aznar traveled to Chile where he will meet with President Michelle Bachelet and to receive an honorary doctorate degree granted by the University Andrés Bello.
