Peruvian journalist Cesar Hildebrandt quits job after breaking Garcia story


(LIP-wb) -- Peruvian journalist Cesar Hildebrandt complained he is being harassed after he broke the stories on President Alan Garcia's affair which resulted in fathering his sixth child, and presumed irregularities in the current vaccination campaign against rubeola (measles).

Hildebrandt, one of Peru's most prolific journalists, announced his resignation as columnist for newspaper "La Primera" today in an interview with Radio RPP Noticias and maintained that president Alan Garcia had a talk with the medium's owner so that he would be fired, in retaliation to his revelations published in his column last Friday.

According to him, Alan Garcia “requested his head” because he wanted to keep the existance of his baby son a secret.

Nevertheless, the journalist welcomed the gesture of President Garcia Perez to publicly announce and recognize that he had a baby son.

He also stated that the owner of "La Primera", businessman Ricardo Wong is the author of today's front page story, which affirms that the Pan-American Health Organization (OPS) denies Hilbedrandt's allegations of irregularities during the rubeola vaccination campaign.

He said that Wong dictated the headline in order to discredit him and force him out of his job.

Presumably doctors are concerned and there is increased fear because the Ministry of Health prioritized the vaccination campaign without giving a warning that the inoculation itself causes health risks, especially for pregnant women.

Hildebrandt had stated in his column that the vaccine bottles itself carry a specific caution warning for people allergic against eggs and neomycin, who have recently received a Gammaglobulin treatment, have a weak immune system, are prone to infections, or pregnant.

Hildebrandt concluded the interview by saying "I'm going to look for a vaccine against unemployment".
