Food poisoning sends 400 Peruvian school kids to hospitals
(LIP-wb) -- Almost 400 Peruvian school kids in Huancayo, Peru, were committed to nearby hospitals yesterday after showing symptoms of food poisoning from a school breakfast provided by the National Nourishment Program (Pronaa).
As of Wednesday morning, 58 remain in hospitals suffering from moderate dehydration, informed Pronaa executive director, Ricardo Maravi. Current assumptions are that added pasteurized milk cartons which came directly from a producing supplier may have been contaminated.
Yesterday, Peru's Health Minister Carlos Vallejos informed that a team of doctors were sent to the area to support local hospital personnel that take care of the children.
The group of doctors includes six epidemiologists who are trying to determine the exact cause.
All students are in stable condition, doctors confirmed.
