Peruvian doctors and nurses leaving the country behind

(LIP-wb) -- Paulina Giusti, an official at Peru's Health Ministry, presented on Tuesday a new study called “Situational Diagnosis of Human Resources in Peru” and informed that 12,298 doctors and 17,356 nurses emigrated to various countries between 1994 and 2004.

One of the main reasons is the difference between "the world of work and the world of medical education, characterized by the misalignment between educative resources and service demand", Guisti expressed.

She said a great deal of aspiring doctors would leave the country for education reasons because international faculties have better reputations, better resources, and an overall higher level of teaching standards.

Of course, different income levels are also a major aspect.

More than half of Peru's doctors practice in Lima and another 30 percent in seven other regions: Arequipa, La Libertad, Callao, Piura, Ica, Cusco and Junín.

I don't mean to offend, but I often find spelling and grammatical mistakes in your articles. Do you need a copy-reader by chance?

The editor is a non-native English speaker living in a non-English speaking country, catering to a huge percentage of foreigners in Peru who may be from any number of non-English speaking nations. I think many of the mistakes are forgiveable, except for those that could easily be picked up in a spell checker. An example is "attrack" - 3rd line down in http://www.livinginperu.com/news/2771

If the articles are typed into a web-based interface for posting to the site, I suggest using Firefox 2.0 with an in-built spell checker.

I apologize.
Nobody is perfect but our little team here is trying its best.

By the way, Stuart, I just downloaded Firefox 2.0 yesterday, so I hope to avoid at least spelling errors from now on. But it takes a little time to get used to it :-(

Thanks for the support, thanks for pointing out our mistakes, and thanks for your patience.

oooh, and yes, we actually are looking for an intern. Native English speakers preferred.

Happy Wednesday, y'all.
