(LIP-jl) -- As a way to improve the longevity and integrity of Peru's most important tourist attraction, authorities from the department of Cuzco, Peru are studying the idea of limiting visits to the ancient Incan citadel, Machu Picchu.
According Jorge Zegarra, the director of Peru's National Institute of Culture (INC in Spanish) in Cuzco, the INC is evaluating the pros and cons of limiting daily visits to the sacred Incan site to two or three daily visits.
"It is an idea that we are currently evaluating with technical specialists. We are trying to find a way avoid visitors staying all day. Aside from congesting the ruins when new groups arrive throughout the day, these groups also create unnecessary 'wear and tear' to the site," manifested Zegarra.
According to the director of the INC, their goal is to improve the distribution of visitations to ensure the integrity of the site, not to prohibit them.
Everyone who visits Machu Picchu will have an opportunity to access the site within the parameters of the new guidelines.
On a side note, don't forget to vote for Machu Picchu as a new world wonder on the following website (
