(LIP-jl) -- According to an article from the Colombian magazine,
Dinero, Peru is becoming an attractive alternative to many Colombian businesses due to the mining and exporting boom Peru is currently experiencing.
The article informed that many Colombians believe Peru is going down a similar economic path as Peru's southern neighbor, Chile, who is regarded to have one of the most stable and prosperous economies in South America.
Colombian companies believe the potential to run successful operations in Peru is attractive enough to outweigh the risks.
Just last year, the Peruvian chocolate company Good Foods Peru, which operates the popular brand Winter's, was taken over by the National Chocolate Group of Colombia.
The deal was worth a reported US$36 million.
Figures released by the Peruvian government support the claim that Peru's booming mining and exporting industries are rubbing off on other markets.
According to 2006 figures, the home appliance sector grew by 20%, the cellular phone market grew by 35%, and Peruvian restaurants reports an increase in sales of 20%.
