Spanish doctors to operate more than 120 children in Chiclayo, Peru for free
(LIP-jl) -- A delegation of Spanish doctors who arrived in the northern Peruvian City of Chiclayo yesterday, announced that they will operate more than 120 children for free, among them burn victims and sufferers of congenital deformations. The doctors, from Spain's
Plastic Surgeon Society and the non profit organization
Juan Cuidad, will also help children from the cities of Jaen and San Ignacio (Cajamarca) , Bagua Grande (Amazonas), Rioja and Moyobamba (San Martin).
Strong wind and fog forecast for Lima and Ica
(LIP-jl) -- Peru's National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi in Spanish) issued a strong wind advisory for the departments of Ica and Lima beginning this Friday and ending on Saturday February 24. They also warned that the areas of Pisco, Ica, and Nazca will likely experience strong sandstorms. In addition to this, Senamhi also warned that the city of Lima will experience early morning fog over the same period.
Small earthquake jolts Arequipa, southern Peru
(LIP-jl) -- A small earthquake jolted residents in the seismically active department of Arequipa yesterday. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 4 on the Richter Scale. The earthquake occurred at 3:32am (8:32GMT) and its epicenter was located 44 kilometers to the southeast of the district of Camana. According to the Peru's Geophysical Institute, this was the 21st recorded earthquake of the year.
Peruvian Police detain 14 drug mules in Miraflores & Surquillo
(LIP-jl) -- Agents from Peru's Anti-Drug Unit invaded two hotels that were suspected of being drug mule recruiting centers. The hotels, located in the Limean districts of Miraflores and Surquillo, were frequented by suspected drug mule recruiters who targeted foreigners, many of them backpackers, who were looking to make a quick buck. In total, 14 Peruvians and foreigners were arrested on suspicion of trafficking cocaine.
Police seize 43 rigged slot machines in Limean casinos, 2 arrested
(LIP-jl) -- Peruvian authorities confiscated 43 rigged slot machines from casinos located in the Limean districts of La Victoria, San Juan De Miraflores, and Villa El Salvador. According to Walter Rivera, chief of this special operation, most of the machines were adulterated and had accessories installed in them to ensure maximum profit for the casino owners. In all, two men were arrested but their identities have not been released to ensure that the investigation continues without problems.
