Lima | 2 March, 2007 [ 09:20 ]Peru: Bus kills to 2 pedestrians in Lima
(LivinginPeru.com) -- Anybody who has ever lived in Lima, Peru has probably feared that sooner or later they could be run over by a dreaded 'combi,' a local term referring to Lima's small vans that serve as a cheap mode of public transportation for the masses. Yesterday, however, that became a reality for three people in the Limean district of Santa Anita.
A bus that operated the La Punta, Callao-Santa Anita route veered off the road and climbed onto the sidewalk hitting 3 pedestrians who were waiting at a bus stop on Los Ruiseñores Avenue, near the Santa Anita traffic circle.
Two unidentified women between the ages of 30 and 40 died immediately, while the third woman, who was reportedly 5 months pregnant, was taken to the Montefiori Clinic in La Molina after presenting massive abdominal trauma.
Unfortunately, the severely injured woman, identified as Juana Palomino Moina (27), lost her baby due to the severity of her injuries.
Although authorities did not mention the cause of the accident, many eyewitnesses declared to local media that the bus was traveling at an excessive speed which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
