(LIP-jl) -- One of the many promises that current Peruvian President Alan Garcia made while he was on the campaign trail was to end the blatant labor abuse produced by national and foreign employment agencies.
Today, Garcia began his quest to fulfill that promise by announcing a 'grand campaign to stop intermediary labor abuse' in Peru.
The Peruvian leader added that entities that violate labor laws will be denounced by Peru's Labor Ministry since the majority of these companies benefit the contracting enterprise with cheap labor, the outsourcing company with earnings commissions, and leaves workers grossly underpaid, overworked, and with virtually no voice.
"It is time to end the abuse of these agencies," declared Garcia.
According to Peruvian newspaper Peru 21, Garcia indicated that he did not forget his campaign promise regarding employment agencies, stating that he was 'waiting for the most opportune moment' to fight these companies.
Many of workers who are contracted by these outsourcing companies do not even appear on company payrolls, preventing them from receiving their obligatory Bi-annual bonuses (December and July) and in many cases, from denouncing labor abuse.
"It is one of the most basic things a company should honor. We will go to the mines, to the factories, and to offices to verify whether or not these workers are on company payrolls," affirmed Garcia.
Earlier today, Peru's Public Ministry announced the closure of 300 employment agencies that were proven to exploit workers.
