(LIP-jl) -- In a meeting with Peruvian President Alan Garcia, United States Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson reiterated the U.S.'s desire to improve trade, economic, and political relations with Peru.
"Paulson has come to Peru to deliver a message of affirmation and of friendship from the United States, in addition to a shared outlook on how economic growth and democracy can give more jobs and services to help those who most need it," commented Garcia.
According to Peru's El Comercio newspaper, the Peruvian leader also indicated that Paulson's presence in Peru is an excellent barometer of Peru's economic future, even commenting that U.S. Treasury Secretary jokingly admitted to be jealous of Peru's recent economic growth.
"Paulson is an important figure in U.S. politics because of his influence in American business and economic sectors, as well as his close relationship with U.S. President George Bush," stated Garcia in a press conference at Peru's Governmental Palace.
