(LIP-jl) -- Updating yesterday's story regarding the death of 21 year old Peruvian student Daniel Perez Cueva at University of Virgina Tech massacre, his father, Flavio Orlando Perez, will travel to the United States today at midday after officials from the United States Embassy in Lima, Peru quickly issued the elder Perez a humanitarian visa.
"We just spoke about senseless violence in the world. Its such a sudden loss. He was a driven young man. I just want to be next to him," said Orlando Perez from his home in Callao.
Meanwhile, the slain student's mother, Betty Cueva, who lived with her son in the United States, still cannot fully comprehend the logic behind the events that rocked the Virginia Tech campus.
"I would like to think that he is still alive and he will be back soon. I've been through some great times and tough times in this country with my son at my side. My children are the most important things to me," declared Cuevas amid tears.
A former University of Miami student, Perez, an accomplished swimmer, decided to transfer to Virginia Tech for its academic prestige.
Before Daniel departed to the United States he studied at Lima's Champagnat School and was part of Peru's National Swimming Federation.
