Peru falls in latest FIFA rankings

(LIP-jl) -- The latest worldwide rankings released by soccer's governing body - the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA, French for International Federation of Association Football) was released earlier today from Switzerland, and revealed that Peru's national soccer team dropped another spot as the Copa America draws near.

The underachieving side, led by second time head coach, Julio Cesar Uribe, was bumped down to number 71 on the list, as Venezuela, host of this year's Copa America soccer tournament (which features some of the best sides in the Americas, including Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, and for the first time ever, the United States) moved up to surpass the Peru.

In reference to South American teams, Peru is near the bottom of the list, only besting lowly Bolivia which placed 97th on the list.

Meanwhile on the other end of the spectrum, Italy remains number one, while Brazil, Argentina, France, and Germany round out the top 5.

Top 10: 1 - Italy, 2 - Brazil, 3 - Argentina, 4 - France, 5 - Germany, 6 - Netherlands, 7 - Portugal, 8 - England, 9 - Spain, 10 - Czech Republic

I hope Peru get their act together at the Copa America - and I hope they call on Nolberto Solano. A favourable draw gives the team a great chance to qualify and climb back up the rankings.

Peru has more potential than their current world ranking of 71st, and with a strong Copa America tournament in Venezuela the Peruvians will improve on the rankings.

Peru are capable and their easier draw could see them at least make the quater finals at the Copa America and thus could break inside the top 60 in the world once again.

Cool
