(LIP-jl) -- Just as a recent wave of strikes and labor protests that have affected several Peruvian industries and governmental agencies finally seemed to calm down, authorities from the Peruvian jungle region of Loreto confirmed their intent to go on a 72 hour strike in protest of the Peruvian President Alan Garcia's administration.
The three-day strike, which is scheduled to take place on June 4, 5, and 6, is expected to paralyze all governmental, financial, and educational institutions throughout Loreto.
Commerce to and from the region is also predicted to come to a stand still during the three-day period.
In a press conference held at Peru's Parliamentary building, located in downtown Lima, Loreto congressman Mario Peña confirmed the strike, which according to Peru 21, may include some type of disruptive and/or violent demonstrations.
Loreto regional president Ivan Vasquez, maintains that the region's share of funds generated by federal taxes on the area's oil and hydrocarbon industries are simply not enough to develop the region's social and educational sectors.
