Peru: Miraflores to appeal court order that reopens night clubs

(LIP-jl) -- After a court order mandated the reopening of three night clubs that were closed a couple of months ago, the municipality of Miraflores has announced that it will appeal the decision to keep the the night clubs closed.

This past April, the municipality of Miraflores, headed by Mayor Manuel Masias, closed Down Town, Vaca Loca, and Phuket amid resident complaints that the night clubs caused excessive noise and attracted 'immoral' conduct in their immediate surroundings.

The mayor indicated that he is planning on denouncing the judges who issued the court orders due to, what he called, 'apparent irregularities.'

Among the closed establishments is Down Town, known as one of Lima's most famous homosexual night clubs. The closure of the night club has brought about strong protests from Lima's homosexual community who allege the night club was closed based on discriminatory reasons.

The mayor added that the Exes night club, located in Larco Mar, will soon be closed as well because the establishment is only authorized to operate as a restaurant and bar.

I wish they would hold Masias in contempt for disobeying the rules of his own municipality.  If he wanted to shut them down, as an elected public servant, he had the obligation to do it legally and ethically, and he failed.

How much does Masias gets bribed by the 'concerned neighbours' I wonder?

Can someone explain what happened over the last say half a year to my beloved new home Lima? One of the reasons I choose to live here was the great variety of nightlife, all night every night. But suddenly nightlife - by the way one of Lima's major turist attractions! - is under severe attack. The ongoing struggle in calle Berlin of the longestablished bars with their sad neighbours, the cases of the in the article mentioned Miraflores clubs and let us not forget the totally out of place 'Operation Zanahoria' in Barranco, ironically thé original nightlife district of Lima: The narrow mindedness seems to go on and on...

So, has Lima suddenly been overflown with small town- thinkers or is there a bribing contest going on?
Why are Miraflores and Barranco narrow minded residents not spending their money on moving to La Molina and leave the two major, of time immemorial nightlife districts to the revellers?
