Fujimori is "attempting to avoid extardiaton," Peru's Chancellor says

(LIP-ir) -- Kokumin Shinto (People's New Party) asked former Peruvian President, Alberto Fujimori to run in the Upper House election next month. The party is considering having Fujimori in the Tokyo electoral district, in which voters choose a candidate, not the party, according to Kokumin Shinto.

Peru's Minister of Exterior Relations, José Antonio García Belaunde has said that this in no way will affect the extradition process. He stated, " This is a maneuver on behalf of the People's New Party and the former President himself to try and evade extradition, this in no way will affect the process because it has already begun."

Chancellor Garcia has explained that, "This is an attempt to make him 'more' than a 'normal' Japanese citizen and in turn involve the Japanese government. The idea is to get the Japanese government involved."

Upon being asked if it would be possible for the former President to get elected, García Belaunde stated, "judicailly it is very complex."

He told Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reporters, " I can't imagine Chilean judicial authorities stopping the process because he is a political candidate or letting him go in the case that he is elected. The process has begun and he has to finish it."

García Belaunde finished by expressing his trust in the Chilean judicial system and stating that he was completely sure that this event was not going to change anything.

It means he wants to avoid being someone who formerly had a problem with punctuality.
