Peru's Fujimori releases video to Peruvians

(LIP-ir) -- Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori has stated that his position in Senate can "open a world of incalculable political possibilities" for Peru and Japan.

In a video posted on his web page, fujiprensa.com, Alberto Fujimori addresed his "fellow countrymen" stating that his decision to run for the Japanese Senate will directly affect his future and that of Peru's.

He explained that the possibility of being a Japanese senator would give him the chance to contribute to Japan and at the same time "become an immediate bridge between Japan and Peru."

"This new bridge can can significantly multiply Japan's support which during my presidency was 3 billion dollars, an amount which helped build schools, highways, irrigation systems among other things."

Fujimori explained that he has been reflecting over the possibilities of what his service in the Japanese government could provide Peru. "Peru and Japan, one heart. For Peru and Japan," is what the former President explains to be the reason why he has accepted Kokumin Shinto's proposal to run for Senate.

He assures that his experience in "solving complex problems in Peru" will help him contribute excellently to Japan. After being elected "I will immediately further Peruvian-Japanese relations."

"My election will form a solid and indestructible relationship between Japan and Peru."

To conclude, he promised fellow 'Fujimoristas' that he would return to Peru to continue in their efforts to develop a better country.

He did not address the issue of his extradition case at all during his 3 and a half minute video.

Fujimori, who was President of Peru from 1990-2000, is currently under house arrest in Chile awaiting a court ruling on his extradition to Peru. The Peruvian government wants him tried on bribery, misuse of government funds and taking part in death-squad killings.
