(LIP-ir) -- Peru coach Julio Cesar Uribe admitted his team could not handle Argentina’s talent in their 4-0 Copa America defeat on Sunday.
Argentina dominated the entire game, although excellent defense from Peru's players put them in the second half of the match 0 - 0.
Juan Roman Riquelme scored two of Argentina's four second-half goals and assisted another in their win over Peru during the quarter-finals.
After the scoreless first half, in which Peru barely threatened, unguarded Riquelme scored two minutes into the second half.
Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano also took part in the 4 goals Argentina scored in the second half.
After scoring the first goal of the game, Riquelme found Messi open, who scored on Peru goalie Leao Bultron and extended Argentina's lead in the 61st minute of the game.
Mascherano, who scored the only goal in Argentina's victory over Paraguay, scored in the 75th minute of the match. Riquelme then sealed the game at 4-0 scoring with an assist from Carlos Tevez in the 86th minute.
Tevez, who assisted Riquelme in Argentina's first goal, was put in the game the second half in place of Diego Milito, who failed to make any impact against the Peruvian defence.
The last time Peru defeated Argentina was 10 years ago, 2-1 in a 1997 Copa America quarterfinal in Sucre, Bolivia.
Argentina is now scheduled to play Mexico, who crushed Paraguay 6-0, on July 11 at Polideprotivo Cachamay in Puerto Ordaz
