(LIP-ir) -- It is possible that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which is to be held in Peru in 2008, could triple foreign investment in being that the countries which make up APEC represent 60 percent of the world economy.

The Leader's Summit, to be held this November in Lima, will give Peru a chance to show the world the business opportunities that the country has to offer, explained Vice President, Luis Giampietri.

He added that what happened in Vietnam the year after it held the APEC summit in 2006 - foreign investment tripled in 2007 - could also happen here in Peru.

"Peru can also have this type of response, generating more investment opportunities. Every Peruvian should look at APEC as a window of opportunities for business in the country," stated Giampietri, who will also preside over APEC 2008.

He explained that the majority of people that will arrive to Peru for the summit are business people looking for investment opportunities, business people that are willing to invest in what the country has to offer.

"To attract foreign investors Peru has to demonstrate that it is united, at peace, a country without fights or protests. A stable country in which the highways do not get blocked," emphasized Vice President Giampietri.

He asked Regional and Local governments to help in an effort to create order and safety, to try and talk to the people as to avoid protests that damage the country's image.
