Peru: Exportation to EFTA countries nearly $1bn in 2007

(LIP-ir) -- Peru's exportation, specifically to countries which belong to the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), has increased dramatically this year reported Peru's Exporter's Association (ADEX).

Reports indicate that in this years' January - May stretch, the total sum of exported goods from Peru to EFTA countries has been $922.05 million, a whopping 71 percent increase when compared to last years' January - May term.

According to ADEX reports between January - May of 2006, exportation had already gone up to $537.940 million, but has increased much more this year.

Peru has already begun negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement with the EFTA, which consists of countries such as: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and should be done by the end of next year, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism.

With exportation being primarily gold, Switzerland was by far the country to which the most Peruvian products was exported, followed by Norway and then Iceland. Exportation to Liechtenstein was not reported during this period.

Companies which export to the EFTA from Peru are companies such as: Minera Barrick Misquichilca, Minera Yanacocha, Universal Metal Trading, Minera Aurífera Santa Rosa, Minerales del Sur, Minera Aurífera Retamas and the Minera San Simón Company.
