Peru's Independence Day Honored in Miami, Florida

(LIP-ir) -- Thousands of Peruvians were among the masses that sang, ate, drank and danced at the 6th Annual Peruvian Festival in Miami.

The festival, in honor of Peru's Independance day, was held at Tamiami Park (Miami Dade County Fair Expo) on Sunday July 15 from noon to 11p.m.

The event gave Peruvian artists, such as Gianmarco and Miki González the opportunity to perform in South Florida to thousands of people and at the same time expand their audience.

The festival is known for inviting Peru's  finest artists such as Pedro Suárez Vértiz the No sé quién y No sé cuántos, Eva Ayllón and many more.

The Festival was organized by Hispanic Group, in commemoration of Peru’s Independence Day, which is July 28. Hispanic Group, an American company founded by Peruvians, has taken on the task of organizing a celebration, which truly creates the spirit and jubilee of a Peruvian Independence day celebration since 2002.

For the occasion, the Peruvian flag was hoisted above the crowd during a traditional ceremony held by the president of Hispanic Group and the consul of Peru in Miami.

The occasion was also used as an opportunity to raise funds for all of Peru's cold wave victims in the highlands. Local companies in Miami have donated large containers in which all of the clothes and medicine will be placed for shipment to Peru.

It was announced that all donations would be accepted at the Santa Catalina de Siena church in Kendall. A bank account. for anyone who wishes to help, has also been opened at the Bank of America. For the account number click here.

How did I miss this???  Why did they hold this event so early?  Isn't it usually held later in the month (closer to the 28th)?  Bueno, asi es la vida.  There's always next year.

Me da gusto que haya salido bien el evento. Sobre todo la presentacion de Nosequien y los Nosecuantos.

Yo soy el bajista de los Nosequien y les aseguro que nosotros no hemos tocado alli este anho. La foto foto que ven es de hace tres anhos.

Los Nosequien were not on this festival, only Gianmarco, Miki, and Eva Ayllon. The guy who made this article must been drank.

There were no more than 4,500 people there, probably beacuse of the rain.
 
I was there, and the festival was boring. Gianmarco performed his last CD (not known yet) , Miki made electronic music, (not his hits) and only Eva made his always-the-same show.

Why did the organizers didnt booked the Nosequien !!!

The Festival was different when they used to come !!!

Ha sido emocionante ver la foto de los noisequien, conmigo envuelto en mi bandera. Desde el festival de ese año (2004), no hemos tenido la suerte estar en ese festival y de bacilarnos con nuestra gente de Miami. La foto corresponde a ese evento de hace tres años.

Ey Daphne the 27 the festival is in california.. so i dont know if there is going to be festival here Miami on the 27..a friend told me that he saw in the tv that it is going to be on the 26 of july..i doubt about it because 26 is saturday..but maybe..this weekend on the 20 is the colombian festival in the tamiami park...last year the festival was there..so if there is one there year..it might be there. If u or someone listen about the peruvian festival please post a comment on this website

I was looking everywhere but it seems that there is not going to be one in Miami. In any case, the few times I have gone there is just a total disaster, the park ends up very dirty, perople throwing up garbage everywhere. Only one stand for picarones o anticuchos with a line to no end. It needs to be more organized and as peruvians we need to keep the sites clean.

I'm pretty upset that there is not going to be a festivity this year. The celebration of the independence of peru is as important to those in Peru as it is to those who are here. I agree with the comment posted, about the park being a disaster and the lines are exsagerating but even if it is for a few hours that day I feel more Peruvian then ever and I couln't be any happier than to celebrate with fellow Peruvians. To everyone reading this

El Anio pasado tube la oportunidad en asistir a un buen evento organizado en el hotel sheraton en miami, Fabiola de la cuba y una banda muy bueno, quisiera saber si van a organizar alguna actividad parecida a la del anio pasado.. sea de baile o estilo pena.

Se corto el mensaje, bueno decia que como vivo en un pueblito remoto en NY, pues mi gringito esposo es de aqui y luego de casarnos vine para aca. Tenemos planes de salir de aca y mudarnos a otro lugar. A mi me gustaria vivir en un lugar mas de ciudad. Escucho tanto de Miami, y a pesar que no nunca he estado aya, creo que me gustaria algun dia conocer y quiza vivir alla. Podria alguien please basicamente decirme como es vivir en Miami? tenemos dos hijos y por aca no hay nada, pero nada de atracciones ni lugares como para entretenimiento.
Gracias paisanos. En parte doy gracias a Dios por mi hermosa familia que me ha dado y no puedo quejarme porque mi esposo se raja duro para darnos una buena vida, pero por otro lado como que no pienso quedarme por aca en estos lugares siempre. Quiero lo mejor para mis hijos y nosotros.
