Peru: Fujimori's Daughter Speaks on Extradition

(LIP-ir) -- July 12 will be a day remembered by Fujimori's entire family as the day justice was finally served when Chilean Judge Orlando Álvarez rejected Peru's request to extradite the former president.

To get more details on the precise moment the news was announced, RPP News interviewed Keiko Fujimori who is with her father in Santiago. Keiko, presently a member of Peru's congress, spoke on the situation her family has been experiencing.

"I'd like to take a moment and say thank you for all the support we have received during this time of persecution my family has endured. I'd like to thank those that always defended him [Alberto Fujimori] and never doubted his innocence," stated Peru's congresswoman.

When asked about the moment in which it was announced that the Chilean Judge had rejected Peru's request to extradite her father she explained that at the moment she had been preparing a meal.

"It was a very emotional moment, even though we have always trusted the Chilean justice system and believed in Alberto Fujimori's innoncence, we were aware that another decision could have been made. We hugged each other and immediately called my brothers, Hiro - who lives in Japan, Sachi - who lives in the United States and Kenji who is in Peru. We were all very excited because we felt that after all these years justice had finally been served", stated Keiko.

Keiko pointed out that unlike Mónica Maldonado's decision, Judge Orlando Álvarez's decision was binding. Keiko also stated that they will wait for the Supreme Court's decision with patience, not assuming anything.

Excerpt from Human Rights Watch:

"The judge’s decision does not question the fact that most of the human rights abuses and corruption attributed to Fujimori did in fact take place. However, he concludes that there is insufficient evidence of Fujimori’s participation in the crimes.

Human Rights Watch noted that the evidentiary standard for extradition under Chilean law is only that evidence must be sufficient to establish probable cause to file charges against the defendant."

Keiko points out that justice was served. Has justice been served for the Peruvian people? So Fujimori while he was presendent, was never responsible for any of the atrocities and human rights violations that occured during his presidency? Maybe Keiko should stop eating so much and realize anything out of her mouth is self serving and a benifit only to her self and family.
