(LIP-ir) -- Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Charles Rangel and Jim McCrery, ranking Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee are to visit Peru in the beginning and middle of August to evaluate terms related to the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the U.S. and Peru.
With the presence of both U.S. political parties we will review final details and hope that in September, as promised, U.S. parliament will discuss and ratify the FTA," stated Peru's Labour Minister Susana Pinilla.
U.S. Ambassador James Curtis Struble stated, "Both parties will have the opportunity to get up to date on what Peru has done and is doing in its plans to implement the FTA and its strategy to reduce poverty."
Ambassador Struble added that these visits will be important and useful to U.S. congress in the ratification of the agreement in September. He also expressed that he would have liked for the ratification of the FTA to have been during his term as Ambassador in Peru.
