Chilean government is confident about maritime dispute results



The Chilean government has stated to be calm and confident that the International Court will rule that their is no maritime dispute between Peru and Chile. Spokesperson for Chile's government, Ricardo Lagos Weber, stated that Chile was prepared to go to court over the issue and hoped to end the dispute soon so Peru and Chile could move on to other issues which Peru's President has stated he wishes to work on. Chile considers that maritime borders have been established, according to agreements made in 1929, 1952 and 1954. Peru has declared that these borders were established only for fishing and no other purpose.

Fujimori sets new goals after losing elections



Peru's former president, Alberto Fujimori, has stated that he is to focus on proving his innocence before Chile's supreme court now that he has lost elections in Japan. "My main objective at this time is to prove my innocence in the extradition case in Chile," stated Peru's former President through his press agents. The former President also stated that despite his loss, he looks forward to helping Peru and Japan form stronger bonds.

Alan Garcia's Presidential speech



During his speech for Peru's Independence Day, President Alan Garcia, stated that during the first year of his administration more could have been done for Peru's poor, but a lack of funds and capacity halted this effort. The President apologized for the administrations lack of speed and stated that the government needed to "debureaucratize" itself. He lamented over conflicts in the nation which have made Peruvians lose trust in the country.

30 thousand visit new fountains in Lima



Over 30 thousand people visited the 13 new fountains this 28 and 29 of July. The fountains, which were inaugurated last week, have already been recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest fountain complex in the world.
