(LIP-ir) -- Peru's President, Alan Garcia, stated in a speech that it is now the U.S. Government's responsibility to ratify the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Peru, without any further delays or demands which affect the country's national dignity.
Peru's President said, "Peru has done everything possible and everything it has had to do, it is now the US Congress' turn, if it is an FTA partisan, to do its part."
President Alan Garcia stressed the importance of the matter during his presidential speech for Peru's Independence day.
President Garcia added that Peru's government has negotiated with the major democratic parties in U.S. Congress, whose plans partially coincide with Peru's social orientation.
The Chief of State added that not only is Peru negotiating agreements with the U.S. but is also negotiating free trade agreements with Canada and Mexico. Aside from that, the Andean Community has begun negotiations with the European Union.
The President also reminded citizens that next year Peru would be hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which would also bring uncountable opportunities to the country.
