Venezuela's Hugo Chavez to Open More Programs and Offices in Peru

(LIP-ir) -- As Peru held its Independence Day Parade in Lima, hundreds of people in Loreto were celebrating for a whole other reason.

On July 29, just over one hundred Peruvians left Loreto, Peru for Venezuela to have free eye surgery done.

The hundreds of men and women with cataracts left as part of "Misión Milagro", a charity sponsored by the Venezuelan government and approved by congressman Víctor Isla Rojas, member of Peru's Nationalist Party.

The people left from Iquitos among the cries and shouts of their countrymen and women supporting not only the "Misión Milagro" program but also supporting ALBA, an agreement proposed by Venezuela as an alternative to U.S. agreements.

According to Pro y Contra, a newspaper in Loreto, there was a stage and a large Venezuelan flag, where Isla Rojas gave a speech thanking Hugo Chavez for the humane help, without taking into consideration the "political color of the assisted."

Isla Rojas assured that "Misión Milagro" would be put into effect in other cities where other Peruvians would be helped. He also stated that he would strive to have an ALBA office in Iquitos, now that there was one in Puno.

It was said and done. In a press release yesterday, congressman Werner Cabrera informed that a group of people from Cajamarca were back from Venezuela after they too had had eye surgery in Venezuela, courtesy of "Misión Milagro".

Isla Rojas also announced that 96 people from Loreto, Peru have left today for Venezuela. He has also stated that he is looking into the legal aspects of opening an ALBA office in Lima and Loreto.

President Chávez stresses historic nature of the Energy Security Treaty
ABN 09/08/2007

Quito, Aug 9th (ABN).- Venezuela’s President, Hugo Chávez, reiterated that the signing of oil agreements to be held Thursday in Quito, Ecuador, is part of the historic integration mechanism of the Energy Security Treaty.

«This is the first time that an oil country has signed an agreement to guarantee energy for the next 100 years to a country without oil,» the President said Thursday early morning after holding a meeting with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Rafael Correa.

During the meeting, they discussed about an agreement to allow Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) moves to Ecuador to exploit several mature oil fields.

«We will also sign an accord to build a big refinery in the Pacific to refine Venezuelan and Ecuadorian oil and we will go to the Orinoco Oil Belt to start the first drilling between Pdvsa and Petroecuador.»

Chávez pointed out that during the meeting with the President of Ecuador, they talked about several issues concerning the integration such as the Bolivarian Alternative for the peoples of America (Alba).

«Ecuador has not enough drills. So we decided to send two Venezuelan oil drills to Ecuador to help to increase the production,» he said.

President Chávez condemned the development model imposed by the nations of the region that, in the particular case of Ecuador, has caused the reduction on oil production from 600,000 to 200,000 oil barrels.

The President explained that it caused that the Ecuadorian State has assigned almost all its resources obtained by the sale of its oil in the purchase of oil derivates.

«They sell the oil barrel in $50 or $60 and they have to buy gasoline in $80 or $90. That’s the model imposed to Ecuador, a colonial model. We came here to help in the liberation of Ecuador.»

The President stressed the recent agreements on Energy Security signed in Argentina and Uruguay, which will be guaranteed energy to the South American nations.

«The agreements will free the region from the American Empire,» President Chávez said.
