Alan Garcia Launches "Building Peru" Creates 8,000 Jobs in Pisco, Ica & Chincha

(LIP-ir) -- Peru's President Alan Garcia, launched the "Building Peru" program, which is to rebuild the areas affected by the devastating earthquake on August 15 and at the same time create 8,000 new jobs.

President Garcia stated that Pisco has a special place in the heart of all Peruvians and that all of Peru wants to see Pisco and Ica recover from this tragedy and prosper once again.

"Building Peru" will create 8,000 jobs for the next month, in which workers will clean all rubble and debris from the majority of the Ica Region, consisting of the provinces of Pisco, Ica and Chincha.

In a speech given at the launch of the new program, President Garcia emphatically stated that Pisco, the city worst affected by the earthquake, would not be overcome by the situation and its people would demonstrate their will power and tenacity.

President Garcia stated that from the wreckage of the cathedral, a new faith and new strength would arise. He added that Pisco was unique and that the foundation for an even greater and more prosperous city was being set.

Peru's President assured citizens that pain and suffering would turn into spiritual strength that would rebuild the city.

"We have all thought about Ica and Chincha, and especially the pain in Pisco, it has helped all Peruvians feel more Peruvian, feel more solidarity, feel more like brothers," stated President Garcia.

My family and I were in the Lima airport when the 8.0 earthquake occurred.  The airport staff were superb, we were treated extremely well.  We were very sorry to hear that the earthquake wasn't a smaller, local quake with minimal dammage.  We are following events in Pisco, Ica and Chincha on the internet and are impressed by the rapid movement towards rebuilding.  We can't wait to return to Peru for another holiday.  We love the country and the people, so much!  Many thanks to the wonderful airport staff.
