Peru: Alan Garcia Assures Majority of Earthquake Victims in Pisco, Ica & Chincha have been Helped

(LIP-ir) -- Peru's President Alan Garcia, has reported that 95 percent of the population that was affected by the magnitude-8 earthquake on August 15, have been helped.

President Alan Garcia admitted that areas which are further away have not received aid yet, and at the same time stated that the majority of the earthquake victims are receiving help.

From Pisco's main square, President Garcia assured citizens that all earthquake victims, even the ones in the most remote and hidden areas, would receive government aid. "Don't worry, everything will be solved," guaranteed Peru's President.

The Head of State also called upon authorities supervising the distribution of donations, stating that provisions needed to be distributed more quickly. Garcia added that work and help efforts could not be halted by "minimal details that interrupt or slow down what has to be done."

President Garcia also addressed authorities in charge of Peru's National Bank, stating that loans needed to be approved more speedily for those that needed aid in Ica, Pisco and Chincha.

Not true.

You have traveled to the diaster area and surveyed the damage yourself?  What statistics do you have?  What are you doing to help the victims?  Have you arranged aid?

People are always quick to be critical but offer no valuable help themselves.  This is a massive disaster and the government is doing its best to help.

Americorps. How come you said the following this morning if you were there?

"I see spain and mexico telling me the same thing as my friend in Pisco,"

Or do you think people only read one item. Now what is not true?

Americorps is just jumping on the band wagon of popular thought.  He can't imagine that the government could ever do anything right.  This is a major disaster and the governement is doing a good job of helpnig in unthinkable situations.  Americorps would have already re-built every home, provided beach resorts so that the victims could take their minds off the past events, and given each family a 3.5 million dollar pension to help them reestablish their lives.

Get a grip.  He's never been there.  Has no authority to speak, and is a big phony. Give us a link to the photos you took if you were there.  When did you go?  How long did you stay?  What did you do to help?    Quit complaining and do something if you don't think it is being handled correctly.

Sprocirema please look at the coments in the K9 Rescue article.

None of my family or friends have been there, but we all sent Food, water and clothing. We made sure that all the items like canned tuna had lift top tabs so you didn't need can openers to get to the food, the clothes were of the type to protect you from both the wind and cold etc.

Our supply of tuna came and went in the manufactures original wrappings with out our pictures.

sprocirema,

I am dissapointed that you decide to present fabrications as the truth.  We have a word for that where I come from.

I have been back and forth and at first, I was congratulating the government because they moved a lot faster than President Bush did during Katrina.

I am also experienced in disaster relief and have volunteered for disasters large and small since the early 1980's.

So, setting aside that you just make things up and present it as the truth..making a discussion with you impossible to be productive..

I think it is important that in a time like this, tough questions be asked and if people are too thinned skinned to join the debate, then they shoudl step aside.  These hard discussions are required so, when it happens again...and it will, the government knows better what to do.  The difference would mean saving lives, maybe yours or mine.

I am well familiar with how distribution goes, but I can assure you from what I have heard from my friends in Pisco, and what I have seen in Chincha, there is a difference between the glowing press releases from the President's office and the reality on the ground.  It is not a total loss and I am not saying nothing is happening, but he makes it sound like wine and roses and it is not.

As for the rest of your statements, considering your record with the truth..I will just consider the source.
