(LIP-ir) -- Businessman Julio Favre, has been the person chosen to head the reconstruction of the areas that were affected by the magnitude-8 earthquake which devastated and left in ruins parts of Peru, on August 15.
Peru's President Alan Garcia announced that Favre would head the committee, made up of mayors, the regional president and other businessmen, that would rebuild the areas damaged by the earthquake.
In statements made to Peru's RPP News, President Garcia stated that the main purpose the committee had was to replace the old structures, which had been destroyed, with newer, more modern and safer buildings.
Garcia stated that Favre would head the South Reconstruction Fund (FORSUR), which would receive contributions from Peru's government and would be handled exemplarily and transparently. He added that one of the FORSUR goals was to complete the Lima-Ica highway and Pisco's airport.
President Garcia explained that tasks immediately after the earthquake had been great and extremely hard, but that it had been his obligation to establish order; such as the burial of corpses and the establishment of areas where victims could go for help.
