U.S. INS Detains Immigrants from Peru after Workplace Inspections

(LIP-ir) -- Peru's El Comercio newspaper reported today, that out of the 17 Peruvian immigrants questioned by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in the state of Ohio, 10 were detained last week.

Eduardo Chávarri, Peru's Consul in Chicago, which has authority over Ohio, informed Andina News Agency that deportation procedures have already begun for the 10 Peruvians.

In addition, Chávarri explained that 9 of the detainees had been transferred to an INS detention center in Kentucky, while the last detainee was taken to jail as it was reported that he had committed other crimes. The other nine detainees were held because of a lack of the necessary paperwork to reside and work in the U.S.

According to Peru's El Comercio newspaper, Chávarri explained that 7 of the 17 immigrants had most likely been freed because they were able to provide INS officers with work permits and valid legal documents.

The immigrants were reported to have been apprehended while U.S. INS officers were randomly inspecting several workplaces to make sure that there were not undocumented workers in the companies. It was reported that over 100 immigrants were detained, the majority of which were Latin American.

The situation isn't getting any easier on illegal immigrants. To all those that are thinking of illegally crossing onto another's property, think twice. To all those that think they can chase the American Dream as an illegal immigrant, good luck.

File your paperwork, be patient. Don't make rash decisions you will later regret. Before you go investing in border hoping take the time to find out what options you have in Peru. Don't be lazy, Peru has many treasures we can use for our benefit.

To those that can legally go to the U.S. Do it! Visit, stay, study - if you can do it legally. Vaya con Dios.
