Residents Protest Acts of Violence - 'Fujimorista' Opposes Demonstration

(LIP-ir) -- Over 1,000 of Peru's residents protested against acts of hate and violence today at the "Ojo que llora" (Eye that cries) monument, a monument that was erected in honor of all those that were victims of terrorism in Peru.

Several days ago, the monument was vandalized when orange a red paint was dumped on it and the names which were written on the many rocks.

For over an hour, family members and friends of the people that were victims of terrorism, as well as union leaders and human rights representatives, expressed their reproval of the acts committed against the monument which was built in memory of 70,000 people.

"They have no right to disturb the movement of traffic," stated Marth Chavez, a former congresswoman for Fujimori's political party. She added, "They should finish destroying it, or they should pick it up and put it in the homes of those that say they defend human rights"

According to Martha Chavez the monument is an insult to all those that suffered and were victims during the Peru's terrorist years. She has explained that the monument has the names of known terrorists mixed with people who were victims of terrorism.

"a monument that was erected in honor of all those that were victims of terrorism in Peru."

It says victims of terrorism, not terrorists.  Anyhow, no matter what it's for Chavez has been repeatedly encouraging people to break the law lately.
