(LIP-ir) -- In an effort to rebuild the areas affected by the magnitude-8 earthquake that struck Peru on August 15, Peru's government formed the South Reconstruction Fund (FORSUR).
FORSUR was to bring together a group of highly trained specialists that would rebuild the areas affected by the earthquake as quickly as possible. Julio Favre was the man chosen to direct the group and was named the president of FORSUR.
Peru's former Minister of Economy, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, is the third member of the FORSUR team that has resigned and decided to not continue working on the project. Kuczynski confirmed today that he would no longer be a part of FORSUR.
Peru's former minister stated that Favre was a "magnificent and honest person", but had not been receptive to the input and suggestions given by the members of the directorate. According to Kuczynski, this had been his reason for quitting.
For instance, Pedro Pablo stated that he never received an answer from Favre with respect to establishing a six-month reconstruction plan with monthly objectives. The plan focused on clearing rubble, rebuilding homes, establishing a water supply as well as rebuilding highways, schools and hospitals.
Kuczynski also reported that the FORSUR directorate had not met once since the August 15 earthquake.
