(LIP-ir) -- The stevedores for the most important port in Peru have decided to end their strike today after agreements were made between workers and companies, announced Peru's Prime Minster, Jorge del Castillo this afternoon.
Del Castillo affirmed that stevedores would immediately begin loading and unloading the ships that were at the port in Callao.
Peru's Premier asserted that because of the workers' desire to negotiate and the cooperation of serious and formal companies, an agreement had been reached.
The agreement signed by port workers and the companies was directly related to solving the claims workers had with respect to their salaries and working conditions.
"There should be work agreements between companies and their workers and we will ensure this happens immediately, stated Del Castillo.
He clarified that Peru's government would not in any way punish the workers that had decided to take part in the nine-day port strike.
The Head of the Council of Minister explained that Peru's government was interested in encouraging good work relations between companies and employees so that workers were treated with dignity.
"The State is not only interested in wages but that work conditions are respectable. Those that buy from us are also observing how we treat our labor sector," said Del Castillo.
