Alicia Keys Spends New Year's in Cusco, Peru and Visits Machu Picchu

(LIP-ir) -- 9-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys spent New Year's Eve in the Andean city of Cusco, one of the most visited Peruvian places in 2007.

The US R&B/soul singer and composer arrived alone to Peru last Sunday and is to stay here until Friday, January 4.

Alicia Augillo Cook, also known as Alicia Keys, visited the Sacred Valley of the Incas and is to take a tour of the archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and Peru’s main tourist attraction.

The 27-year-old recording artist, who has also won eleven Billboard Music Awards, is being escorted by her private security and has chosen not to be seen in public.

Keys is staying at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, and due to bad weather conditions in the area could not head back to Cusco this morning.

During 2007, the Imperial City was visited by celebrities like Olivia Newton John, Cameron Díaz, Chairman of Microsoft Corporation Bill Gates and Princess Beatrice of England, daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Over 60 percent of hotels were booked in the region of Cusco for New Year's Eve celebrations, reported the president of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Cusco, Edwin Gonzales.

It is not true that she is in Peru since Sunday, because Alicia Keys was singing on New Year's Eve at Times Square New York. She might have taken a flight yesterday to Peru.

Alicia very well could be in cusco the new years show was taped a few weeks ago. I am a fan of hers and glad she is getting some R&R in such a beautiful place. The LATimes is not a very good source.

I know for a fact that Alicia Keys would not travel to a Historic part of the World and Slander spitefully off against or at a Nation or its Culture of People for being Poor or Less Fortunite then Others.  Personally:She is not like that or would she consider anything like this.

Again US Media bureaucracy shines it ugly head.
