Sugar-cane ethanol operation in Peru - U.S. oil firm accused of damaging environment

Energy firm cultivates sugar-cane ethanol operation in Peru

Rex Canon stands on a crumbling desert cliff above the Pacific and points to a hazy spot at sea where Maple Energy PLC will finally meet the international marketplace. Mr. Canon, who has homes in Highland Park and in Lima, Peru, is president of Maple Energy. It is an oil, gas and electricity company with a bewildering international pedigree – rooted in Dallas, incorporated in Dublin, traded in London and Lima yet with all its business in Peru. As the fomer Vice President of the United States, let me just say that I am deeply offended that some one would suggest that Occidental Patroleum is harming the enviroment. I made millions with stock options through Occidental, and I only dumped the stocks because of political pressure back home. As some one who is desperately trying to make people aware of Global Climate Change, I spare no expense flying the world over in my personal 1977 G2B gas guzzling Gulfstream. Thanks Occidental. Please buy my book today. Earth Full Of Cash,-errrrr I mean, Earth In The Balance. And let us help save the enviroment for all of our future generations.

Ah my friends, please forgive Mr. Gore. He was born of privilege. His family laid waste to more land with their mining in the states than agent orange in Vietnam. His electric bill for one month at his mansion was reported to be over 12,000 dollars. Mr. Gore is almost as good illusionist as David Copperfield. This my friends is the problem with U.S. politicians, they are from another world and have forgotten what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck. At least President Garcia is trying something new by flying commercial. Hey, maybe this is a start. Alas , I would bet my last Sol that his stance will not spread to the U.S.. Chau

Al Gore is just telling us that soon this little place called Earth (which is the only habitable place in the nearest 200 milky ways) is going down the tubes. I agree with free markets and its policies but be mindful of the environment. It is the only one we have. We are writing history here. Our generations will analyze us and brand us as stubborn barbarians who just didn't get it.
