Peru’s Private Investment Promotion Agency (Pro Inversion) has announced that the concession to build and operate Lima's electric train will be granted on May 29.

Six companies are currently bidding to complete the construction of the "Urban Train of Lima", the electric mass transit system which was begun to be built over two decades ago.

Aside from establishing the company that is to complete the construction of the train, the Municipality of Lima has announced that the number of public transport vehicles which are running on the same route as the train will be reorganized and reduced, therefore making the private company's investment more profitable.

In an ordinance that was published on Sunday, it was declared that public transport access to both the train line's flanks, running from Villa El Salvador to Grau Avenue, would be restricted.

It was reported that the Urban Transport Directorate would have control over the public transportation vehicles that ran alongside or under the new train.

Authorities assured that not all buses and "combis" would be taken off the route, but the number of vehicles would greatly be reduced.
