State of emergency declared in 11 Peru regions due to low temperatures

The Peruvian government declared the state of emergency in eleven departments of the country due to low temperatures with the purpose to execute immediate actions destined to reduce and minimize existing risks.

According to a Supreme Decree published today in the official newspaper El Peruano, this decision will be applied for the departments of Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Junín, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno and Tacna.

The highlands of these departments are being affected by low temperatures, producing meteorological phenomena such as blizzards and hailstorms among others.

Global warming is producing extreme environmental effects causing material damages, destruction, and the loss of human lifes.

The Supreme Decree is signed by the Peruvian president, Alan García Pérez, and Peru’s Prime Minister, Jorge del Castillo.

The ministers of Agriculture, Economy and Finances, Education, Women and Social Development, and Health also signed the document.

My heart and thoughts are with all the peoples in Peru and Bolivia suffering from these extreme weather conditions. I hope the governments of these two fine nations will do everything in their power to help those in need and forget the political infighting that seems to be obscurring what is really important at the moment.

We in the west can also play our part - are there any charities out there making a difference that those of us who can and are willing to help can get in contact with?

Any information will be appreciated

Peace

Let me get this straight...  Extreme LOW temperatures are now caused by Global WARMING !  It's just a matter of time before environmentalist wackos attribute elephant-man disease, AIDS and left-handedness to Global warming.  All to get more $ for their illegitimate cause led by King AlGore himself...  what a joke

To "this article is a joke"

I'm assuming you're refering to the 'global warming' aspect of this article?

Climate change is a fact, is has been happening for eons, or ages if you prefer. Ever since the birth of our planet it has been affected by the cycles of our sun. Whether or not we have influenced that is another matter.

When you look at the science behind this theory that is being pushed down our throats from everywhere, the simple facts are that the science is not there to support what they're telling us. Not my opinion but FACT to which more and more scientists around the globe are stating. Have a look at this little interview with the guy who created the Weather Channel, John Coleman. This guy knows his weather, take a look

It doesn't matter what this weather is caused by, it's just happening and people are dying from the cold. That's what's important here and that's what needs to be focused on.

The science, the facts, at this point just DO not tell us that man is/has induced this. It all points to yet another cyclic pattern of the sun which is affecting our planet. More importantly, it seems like yet another manufactured issue that keeps our intention from the real important issues that we are faced with whilst billions of dollars are just wasted right before our eyes.

I've read plenty of science books senor Arturo and I promise you global warming is not science...  You'll find it under the fantasy section in your local library.

There are two kinds of people in the world.

1. Rational people who know hot to critically think and evaluate arguments and who therefore have confidence in the scientific method and science. These people are open minded and can view arguments from all perspectives and always look at both sides of an issue before making a decision.

2. Irrational people, who believe in nonsense like religion (e.g. Christianity) and astrology and who never learned how to critically think and use their brains. These people are selfish, self-centered and are easily swayed by hysteria and silly propaganda. They are also usually nationalistic and seldom are able to look at both sides of an issue or walk in other people's shoes.

People who ignore the indisbutable scientific evidence for global warming fall into the second ground. There is no point in arguing with them. If you present indisputible proof that something is true, they will continue to believe whatever it is they want because they are incapable of rational thinking. Who else but a fool would believe that some silly all powerful God exists who likes to torture his own creations for eternity for not obeying his juvenile rules...lol

To Mark:

LOL
John Coleman is NOT a scientist.
The only degree he holds is in Communication.

Looks like he knows his rhetoric
and he has used his rhetorical skills well
in persuading ignorant trash to believe he has
any credentials for what he pretends to know.

# Coleman is a Fool says :
20 June, 2008 [ 21:46 ]

John Coleman has NO CREDENTIALS to make the statements he is making in a vain attempt to discredit legitimate scientists, who DO have the credentials to assert, based on the BEST science available, that a large part of the climate change that is being observed and reported is caused by human INDUSTRIAL activity.

Since when does a B.A. in Communications offer anyone the right to pass himself as a scientist? He wouldn't even be allowed to teach at a college with that degree. He would at least have to have an M.A.!

No one has mentioned 'God' in this article except you 'Science is God'

Possibly when indesputable scientific evidence is forth coming you might change my mind. until that day I will stick by my statements.

The evidence, people like Mr Gore are putting forth, is just not conclusive enough to prove this is a man made occurence. They have selectively picked apart the science they want us all to believe to justify their position. When you look at the facts they are yet to produce anything that sticks. Did you know Greenland was once lush- not covered in ice? There are so many variables in working out the equations they use for 'climate modelling' that there is not a computer in the world big enough to do all the calculations- FACT! So they are basing their hypothesis on incomplete information.

And as far as the 'God' thing- please don't get me started on this one....yet another fabricated lie based on mythology. As long as people continue to look outside themselves for 'someone to blame' instead of themselves we will unfortunately be stuck with him. If 'He' helps them to get through life-so be it. Just don't force it on me or anyone else.

Even though you clearly point out the difference between your '2 types of people' it seems to me (from your viewpoint) you clearly belong to the 2nd group. Evalute the facts not the hype covering them up

As far as wikipedia goes- anyone who uses this tool as a source of factual information needs re evaluate their sources. It has been proven time and time again how often the information it contains is either incorrect or invalid that it just cannot be deemed a reliable source of info.

PS What about the people who are dying from the cold- charities that can help etc..etc...?????
I am often surprised what people read into my posts whilst seemingly not having read them at all

Mark the only books you read are those that should be characterized as "Mythology" "Fairy Tales" and "Religious Nonsense" .. don't confuse those categories with Science. Maybe you should start out at the kids section and ask for assitance since an adult science book might be too much for your small brain to handle.

Good luck. :)

I love it when people who put forth alternative 'ideas' to the ones that are sanctioned by our governments and thereby endorsed by the mainstream media are poo pooed for thinking differently.

I'll look elsewhere for the names of charities that I can donate my money to. It's seems obvious no one here is interested in my original question as you're more concerned with the propaganda

There is no doubt that our planet is slightly warmer than it has been in the recent past. This is unquestionable. What is questionable is whether this warming has been and is being induced by man or is just part of cycle that has been going on for millions of years due to the nature of our sun, amongst other things. That is the question here that remains unanswered. John Coleman is not the only one suggesting this. There are many others so don't shoot the messenger. Even if global warming is not induced by us it doesn't mean we shouldn't change our unsustainable ways. That also is obvious. We cannot afford to continue on the path we are currently on.

Conditioning- Noun- Psychology: a method of learning in which a response (called a conditioned reflex) comes to be associated with a stimulus which would normally not produce that response. This result may be achieved through a system of reward and punishment.

Conditioned- Adjective- (of an action) being learned as a result of conditioning

Well my Friends, whatever the cause, the same thing happened last year . It doesn't matter what the cause, we need to find a solution. The government in these provinces need to form a task force and help the people adapt to the cold temperatures. Help the people insulate or provide supplies of gas and heaters to them. Provide shelter and feed supplies for the animals. Why wait for a third winter. My College Physics Professor said, "The only constant in the Universe is change". Chau Friends

# global warming - the latest fad for non-thinkers says :
20 June, 2008 [ 23:04 ]

Why do all the brainwashed Global warming enthusiasts have selective amnesia?  In the 1970's the popular consensus was that we're headed into the next ice age because of global cooling!  Hell these people probably weren't even born yet, but are of course experts!

Proudly proclaiming Global warming 'theory' as scientific fact like algore doesn't make it true any more than global cooling was true in the 70's.  wackos are wackos no matter what decade you're in.

Climate runs in long term cycles (thousands of years)  You need more than 150 years of temperature records to say anything intelligent about global climate change...  Global warming is just the latest fad for those that shout it to steal public money. Nothing more.

Global Warmer Hoaxer James Hansen Once Pushed Global Cooling

NASA bureaucrat James Hansen, who has been making a pretty penny by helping Al Gore prop up the global warming hoax, is a veteran of the global cooling hoax popular in the 1970s.

Investor's Business Daily reports that a 1971 Washington Post scare piece entitled "U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming" fretted that burning fossil fuels discharges particles into the atmosphere that reflect the sun's rays back into space. Emissions over 5–10 years supposedly "could be sufficient to trigger an ice age."

The NASA research behind this hysteria was supported by a "computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen," the same guy who now refers to those who won't drink the global warming Kool-Aid as "court jesters."

This is in reply to the mindless statements made by some people.

Man will destroy man in some way, it’s only a matter of time. It's a fact of life. Everyone knows what smoking does to your body, pollution is killing our planet, and the depletion of the rain forests is another issue. You can’t stop it or change it. Why?… It all comes down to money, greed, and power. Who suffers? Well in this case the people of Peru and that makes me very sad. Tomorrow maybe it’s you!!!

Edita and Mark,

Everyone has a point as they see it. The comments made are real to them and I feel their concerns are well founded. When people speak they sometimes do it in a roundabout manor. What each one of us perceives from an article is slightly different. So we react to it in the same way. Don’t be too hard on them I’m sure they all mean well.

Volunteer Peru has whatever your looking for.  As for the science I'm not 100 per cent convinced that hydro carbons are the cause for global warming, but I am convinced that it is happening.  It may very well be a cycle, but there's no disputing that the ice is melting in the Andes and elsewhere.  I believe that our planet is capable of adjusting to man made and natural causes of global warming and that may be the reason it is colder up top of the Andes the past few years.  I'm glad that Peru is addressing the problem and my only hope is that act they act soon.

# Charles says :

Mark,

Good for you…. It’s apparent you have an open mind.  As for global warming yes it’s a fact of the industrial revolution.  Recorded history proves it and when 911 hit all air travel was suspended.  The atmosphere underwent a change due to the lack of hydro carbons from aircraft exhaust.  The report was shocking. You might find it on the internet someplace.  But the problem now is Peru. Also the northeast US is undergoing a cold switch. I believe it’s too later to change what man has done to our planet so the best we can do is help the people it effects.
