(LIP-do) -- Several immigration experts from Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries will meet on August 14 - 15 in Lima to share their experiences during a workshop called "Extranjero frecuente y seguridad fronteriza" (Regular foreigner and border security) to be held at the National Museum. The head of Digemin, Juan Alvarez Manrique, said this workshop will be beneficial for attendees to learn from experts with experience in this field, so they can apply these concepts and results to daily work.
Alvarez Manrique pointed out that one of the most important issues to be tackled during said meeting will be biometric security which uses measurements of human characteristics to confirm identity. "A biometric security system reads fingerprints or carries out retinal scans. In Peru, we don't have this technology yet, but this workshop will help us to achieve our plans", he said to Andina news agency. Alvarez mentioned that Digemin's initiative to organize this workshop was approved by APEC representatives last year.
