Peruvian doctors are to perform clinical tests to verify the efficacy of the therapeutic vaccine launched in Cuba to prolong a lung cancer patients’ life, said today the director of Peru’s National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN), Carlos Vallejos.

After mentioning that there are no official scientific reports that ensure the efficacy of this vaccine, Vallejos Sologuren highlighted that the INEN is a world leading institution for the study and treatment of cancer, and thus it is able to perform such scientific work.

"What is being said about this vaccine may be true, but there are no qualified reports, which does not make us ignore the quality of this medicine. If it is true, it would be wonderful, and we could do some clinical tests in Peru to verify what Cuban colleagues refer ", he said.

He added that, once proven the effecicacy of this therapeutic vaccine, this would constitute an alternative for people who did not carry out preventive actions against lung cancer throughout their life and unfortunately developed the disease.

The former Minister of Health warned that lung cancer is a terrible disease very closely linked with tobacco consumption and added that nine out of ten cases are associated with smoking.
