Peru town to celebrate 1 year anniversary of chondrite meteorite

Living in Peru
Israel J. Ruiz

A small remote town 800 miles from Peru's capital was placed on the map and in the eyes of the world when a meteorite landed and reports that people were feeling ill surfaced.

On September 15 2007, a chondrite meteorite landed in Carancas, a town in the southern region of Puno.

A chain of events the townspeople will never forget broke out from that moment forward.

Everything from strange sicknesses to Americans stealing pieces of the meteorite and fleeing to neighboring countries was reported.

One year later, foreign and national scientists will celebrate the fall of the meteorite's first anniversary.

In honor of the meteorite's crash, scientists are to gather at the site to compare research and look into possible funding for projects in the area.

"The idea is to do something that will attract attention and bring people together to obtain financing. The main lecturer will be Japanese scientist Miura Yasunori, who has a more accurate vision of what happened," said geologist Hernando Núñez del Prado.

Núñez expressed his hope in conserving the crater and its contents as well as the desire to make it a tourist attraction by building a museum in the area.

He affirmed that the museum was in its planning stage and would require a $100,000 investment.

According to Andina news agency, the chondrite meteorite that landed in Carancas was the size of a basketball and approximately 4.5 billion years old.

Perhaps the ANDINA news agency could actually do some research and read the 50 or so papers that have been presented on Carancas, all of which prove through modeling that the meteorite was from 3-10 metric tons and 1-3 meters in diameter, more like the size of a small car. I am not so smart, but I doubt we have 3-10 metric ton basketball-sized objects. Do your homework, and correct that last sentence, it is idiotic.

MF:  What is more idiotic is that there must be a dirth of things to celebrate in this town if this is the highlight.

You're absolutely right, Mike Farmer. You are not so smart. Just a hick from Arkansas who likes to shoot off his mouth without providing ANY proof.

http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meetings/lpsc2008/pdf/2409.pdf

The modeling of the meteorite suggests a mass of 0.5 - 1 meters in diameter. A basketball would be about a half meter in diameter. The measured density of a meteorite sample is 3630 kg/m3

Please show us where it has been mentioned in any papers of a meteorite size in the 3 - 10 metric ton range.

And since you wanted to dig it up, how did you propose to do that?

Just stay out of Living in Peru and South America.

I know have it on good authority that Michael Farmer and Randall Gregory are actually one and the same person

Interesting point you make mericorps... I often wonder about some of the comments/arguments posted on these pages.

What are these people trying to do and why, apart from cause trouble.

Maybe as another user on this site has suggested there are more 'trolls' than we realise.

Peace

Mark

I post here in response to the trash that Mike Farmer posts. Mike Farmer caused the trouble by breaking laws in Peru and other countries. Argentina is seeking an arrest warrant throught INTERPOL for the crimes he comminted in Berduc.

He continues to trash Peru and I've told him to keep his stupid comments off of the living in Peru website, yet he continues.

I live in Peru, have children and my wife is Peruvian. There's a big difference between Mike Farmer and myself. MF is not married, has no children and is believed by some to be gay.

I have it on good authority that he's a very *close* friend of mericorps.

LOL, you do not even realize that placing yourself as the bigot makes you look even more ignorant and worthless than you already did.

That is why I am a big fan of free speech, it exposes people like you for the worhtless people you are.

So what if I'm gay? I'm proud to be a gay American and the biggest meteorite dealer in the world.

I could care less that you're gay.

It's just that you lie to everyone about everything and you trash the good people of Peru. Nobody on this website wants to hear you bashing professional and positive people trying to do the best they can with the resources they have.

Do us a favor, Mike. Stay off the Living in Peru website! Get a life!

P.S. I have a gay sister-in-law and she's one of the nicest and finest people I have ever met.

My, my....here we go again. Randy and Mikey, didn't I tell you to stop fighting each other a few months back?? Now you're at it again!

Mikey, it looks like the "Living in Peru" editor doesn't like your nasty comments and has deleted them.....so, why don't you stay off the Living in Peru website if you can't behave yourself!

Randy: please don't call Mikey a "gay hick". Mark, is not nice to call people "trolls".

# Randall Gregory says :

Sister,

Mr. Ruiz wrote a very nice article about a celebration and a positive event for the people of Carancas. MF jumps in with his negativity and spoils another article by trashing Peru science.

And then that idiot friend of Mike Farmer, Michael Cottingham, posing as mericorps, wades in. No wonder people around the world have a dim view of Americans.

I thought that Mikey would refrain from posting here and apparently I was mistaken. I didn't start this post, just responded to the trashing of Peru that MF posts here. I kept my promise.

This will be my "last" post if MF will comply and agree to stay off the living in Peru website.

Sister, I could care less about MF's orientation. He makes a ton of false claims to boster his image and he disgraces the meteorite community when he trashes the scientists of Peru.

This high school graduate tries to present himself as someone that understands planetary science. He does not and is doubtful he ever will. He got lucky when he bought a meteorite for $10,000 and sold it later for over $200,000. If it wasn't for that event, he would be employed cleaning bathrooms at the local McDonald's or a security guard at Walmart's.

He *discovered* that meteorites were like diamonds falling from the sky and started to chase meteorite falls, for profit without respect for people or the law. He claims to support science but has never donated anything.

He is, by far, the most disgusting individual I have ever encountered. He needs to understand that he is not welcome here.

Take the hint, Mikey. Stay out of Peru!

# Sister Mary of the Angels says :

Well, ok, then...Randy.  Let's hope Mikey takes the hint and drops the subject, but let's not make any assumptions about his qualifications for employment. I'm sure Mikey has some talent he can develop instead of trashing Peru as a hobby.

Ok, Mikey, please back off and don't write anything that LiP is going to censor you for, ok son?

PEACE be with you both and with anyone else who may be tempted to write nastigrams on this website. Let's keep it clean, everyone.

Mr. Ruiz,

You you please delete that last comment that Mike Farmer posted using my name. I can't believe how sick and degenerate he really is.

Sister,

He didn't take the hint. Some people are just beyond hope!

# Randall Gregory says :

Also, global warming is caused by Mike Farmer. That earthquake in China? Mike Farmer! Mike Farmer photoshopped that Iranian missile test photo. Think Pope John Paul II died of natural causes? That’s what Mike Farmer wants you to think! Mike Farmer has the cure for cancer, but will he share it with anyone? Noooooo!!!! Mike Farmer is making all of those crop circles in England! Who’s to blame for skyrocketing gas prices? That jerk Mike Farmer! I can say with no risk of exaggeration whatsoever that Mike Farmer is a million times worse than Hitler!

And when I meet Mike Farmer-- who I shall know by his superfluous 6th finger, I shal say to him-- "I am Randall Gregory.  You killed my father.  Prepare to die!"

Mr. Ruiz,

Please delete the last two comments attributed to me. I did not make them. Is there anyway to keep this Mike Farmer meteorite dealer pervert from contaminating LIP?

# Randall Gregory says :
13 July, 2008 [ 22:31 ]

Mr. Ruiz,

Please ignore the above post.  Some idiot is obviously trying to ruin my fine reputation in the meteorite community by trying to have my posts deleted.

Mikey and Randy: I am so disappointed in you boys. I thought you were both through with this name-calling and viciousness on this very nice "Living in Peru" website.

Please don't pollute it with your viciousness.  Mikey, it's plain to see that you are the most aggressive of the two.
What's the matter son? Why are you so insistent? Why don't you just drop it once and for all?

I hope and pray that both of you will find it in your hearts to forgive and try to be nice and friendly to each other for a change. I know you can do it!  Maybe both of you need a warm hug.....so I'm sending you a "virtual" one. Now, be good and don't disappoint me anymore.....I am counting on you, ok?  Dominus Vobiscum.

Randy: that's ok, son, just do the right thing everytime.

Mikey, thanks for your restrain.

I'm proud of both of you now. The Peace of the Lord be with you. Smile
