Police suspect Chinese human trafficking ring operating in Peru

In the past four days, Peru's highway patrol have detained eight Chinese citizens that are believed to have been smuggled into the country.

At 1:30 a.m. on Friday, officers caught five men traveling to Lima after they had entered Peru through Ecuador.

It was reported that 37-year-old Yu Changxiang, Wang Xiaoli (26), Wang Yan Mei (24), Lu Yan (20) and Yu Chagbao (38) had not had their passports stamped upon entering the country.

The Chinese men were heading to Lima on a Tepsa bus they had boarded in the town of Zarumilla, but only made it to a checkpoint in Bayóvar, located on the 984th kilometer of Panamericana Norte Highway.

One day later, at the same checkpoint, another three Chinese men were found to have entered Peru without having gone through immigration.

19-year-old Chen Ji, Chen Sing (18) and Chen Jie (21) were questioned by police at 11 p.m. on Saturday August 16.

The first group of foreigners was immediately deported and it was reported that second group would be deported as well.

Police suspect the cases are tied to a ring of criminals trafficking people into Peru.

Or maybe there's just irregularities at the border. Immigration has been known to goof up entry documents. They did on mine not once, but TWICE.

There's no doubt in my mind that there's human trafficking, but there are also other logical possibilities.
