Korea’s ambassador to Peru, Han Byung-Kil, indicated that his country expects that the Free Trade Agreement with Peru can be signed in the first half of next year.
Negotiations will start next November during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC).
He said that his country was interested in starting bilateral negotiations soon, but the lack of personnel made it difficult to begin these talks in the present year.
“We have several negotiations scheduled with the European Union, countries of the Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Mexico”, he said during the donation delivery of 13 motors of the Korean brand Hyundai to the National Industrial Training Service (Senati).
Byung-Kil said these negotiations delayed the start of talks to reach a free trade deal with Peru, but the agreement could be signed in the first half of 2009.
It is worth noting that the beginning of negotiations to sign a trade pact between both nations will be announced during the bilateral meeting of Peruvian president Alan García with Korea’s President Lee Myung Bak to be held in Lima.
Byung-Kil indicated that the Korean president would arrive in Lima on November 20 to attend the APEC Leaders Summit, which will take place in Peru’s capital from November 22-23.
