German club Werder Bremen is likely to have Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro lead its attack after he returned to his old club from the English Premier League giant Chelsea.
SV Werder Bremen, which comes off a 2-2 draw at Arminia Bielefeld, will be missing Diego (Olympics), Aaron Hunt (calf) and Per Mertesacker (knee).
Schalke will also be missing several players, including newcomers Orlando Angelaar, Jermaine Jones, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and young Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfan, all injured.
«They have a strong team and they have shown that they compensate for the absentees,» Werder's coach Thomas Schaaf said of Schalke, which beat Hannover 3-0 in its opener and shares the lead with Hoffenheim on goal difference.
Schalke's Jefferson Farfan will miss the start of the Bundesliga because of a shoulder injury suffered in a fall during Schalke's 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier a week ago.
