The National Port Company (Enapu) estimated today that Callao Port has dispatched over 11 million metric tons (MT) of Peruvian export cargo between January and July this year, and it is expected to reach around 20 million metric tons by the end of 2008.
The president of Enapu, Mario Arbulú, pointed out that last year, more than 16 million metric tons (MT) of exports were dispatched from Callao Port, which means that exports will increase 30 percent this year, and it is expected to reach around 29 million metric tons (MT) by 2011.
“Twenty-Foot-Equivalent Units (TEU) of container traffic handled until July was more than 665 thousand and probably more than 700 thousand (TEU) up to now. It is expected to reach about 1 million 300 thousand (TEU) by the end of this year”, he said.
He mentioned that the growth in container traffic is very important for Callao Port and it is expected to have around 1.8 million containers by 2011.
