Peru fans not enthusiastic about World Cup qualifier against Venezuela

As another round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers approaches, football fans in Peru are not as enthusiastic to go to stadiums to support the country's national team.

Evidence of this was seen Wednesday night when it was reported that only 3,000 tickets had been sold for the match between Venezuela and Peru, which is to be held at Estadio Monumental in Lima.

With a capacity for over 60,000 people, El Comercio daily reported there would be a ghost town effect at the stadium on Saturday night.

While players such as Nolberto Solano and Hernán Rengifo have affirmed this is a sad situation, they explained it would be better to have the stadium empty than full of fans insulting the national selection.

After six games, Peru's national team has lost three matches and tied the other three, landing 3 points out of a possible 18.

The Andean country is currently ranked last in South America with a -12 goal difference.

Who would be interested in spending time and money to watch a bunch of mediocre players lose one more game. The head of the 2010 World Cup Commission, Jose Mallqui, aka "Perro Sucio", is out of his mind to charge high prices for tickets (from 200 soles to 20 soles)

I'm traveling to Peru next week and am wanting to get tickets to a soccer game while I'm there.  I know there is a game at Monumental on September 23rd.  Does anyone know how I can get tix?

Geez -- so simple!  So it's not important to have them in advance?  I guess I am used to having to have advance tix for everything here in Chicago...  thank you WTF.

You'll be able to choose from any one of the 63,000 seats that'll be empty. Cool LOL

Hmmm... I'm getting the idea that it may not be so interesting to see a match there... Is that true?
