Peru goal in 93rd minute ties match against Argentina

Living in Peru
Israel J. Ruiz

After battling down the field and breaking free from two Argentine players, an assist from Juan Vargas in the 93rd minute of the game to Johan Fano gave Peru's national selection a much needed tie.

With a new attitude and a fresh team of players, Peru's national team has brought hope back to football fans in the Andean nation.

Even though Peru's match against Argentina ended in a tie and did not give the selection the three points it desperately needs, faith and confidence have been restored in Peruvian football fans across the country.

Playing offensively from kick-off, covering Argentina aggressively and running after every lose ball were key factors in Peru's tie.

While many believed Argentina would break its three-game streak of ties, Peru's national team battled to the end and managed to score in the last minute of the game.

Brilliant gol!.

Happy with this team now, since it has been proven that they have the determination to succeed.

Now they just need to ease in guerrero and then farfan, this will hopefully  ensure that the new team dynamics are not disturbed too much. We do not want individualistic players who do want to give 110% due to fear of  getting injured. If we keep going like this we should get some good results

Does Peru have any prospects left to qualify for the world cup?

Johan Fano was my next door neighboor, though I am a lot older than he is, he was a hyper little 5-yr old. I remember once teaching him to play volleyball ...I didn't know then he had more interest in soccer...
Viva Huanuco!

Yes, mathematically and if they win their next few matches it could still qualify. Nonetheless we want our team to win it gives us great national pride when it does. Check out the ladder if you are if you are interested.

I doubt we will qualify for wold cup. It's OK.
I did not see England in the last Euro Cup, but I know there is great soccer there.
In Peru, it has been a while (since the 1970's) since Peruvians played soccer with passion and skill. Johan Fano and Juan Vargas, little kids playing soccer in the Peruvian streets, they bring hope that Peruvians can still play a good game!!!
Viva Johan! Viva Huanuco!

rice and sugar,

Francisco Bolognesi would be ashamed of you being peruvian...

Have you ever heard the phrase that reads "if you dont have something nice to say... is better for you to stay silent...." ?

Man! these players left everything they have on the field... and you can't even respect that?

# Mike says :

When was the last time Peru qualified for the world cup?

# peloflex says :
11 September, 2008 [ 15:38 ]

Spain 82!

Here is a little bit of history:

We did not qualify to the next one because of Argentina.

First they sent into the field a unknown player named Camino, who's only mission was to injure our best player then Franco Navarro who was making lots of goals... this Camino guy went straight to break Navarro's leg and he did!!! not long after the match had started.

The argentinian coach was counting on having Camino red carded after that, he was willing to sacrifice one player because Navarro was unstoppable... but Camino barely got a yellow card. so they kept his 11 players.

Peruvians fought really hard throughout the entire game and kept the score on their favor until the very last minute when argentinians score in a very unclear and unfair way... they just pushed everyone into Peru's goal... they pushed players, used their hands and no one knows how but they put the ball into Peru's goal and the referee made it count... same story as usual. They didn't even win this game, they needed a tie to qualify and they did with a 2-2.

you can find videos of this at youtube.com  search Camino against Peru or something like that.

Peloflex,
I am sure Francisco Bolognesi played good soccer.

But you never even read my messages properly. I am so proud of the Peruvian soccer team of today...They were amazing, and even if they don't qualify for the world cup, I am still proud of them. Particularly because Fano was my neighbour in Huanuco, and I saw him play when he was 5 yrs old...and funny you mentioned the Great Franco Navarro (He is a distant geneologic cousin...)Smile
I don't play soccer at all..though

So, basically, rice and sugar is just being realistic - there is very little chance of Peru making the world cup.  Regardless of how hard these fellows play.

There isn't much interest in Peru in having quality atheletes or sports teams.  If there was, the olympics and things like the world cup would not be such an issue for so long.

None of which has to do with being loyal to Peru and the efforts made by the atheletes against overwhelming odds.

Mike,

I came back in here cause I found the link to the youtube video that I was talking about on my prior post, but I found your latest comment and now I see that you are a person that just want to see the negative part of things.

I guess I will save the video for someone worth it and interested in soccer history. in the meantime you can just keep on following the pesimistic rice and sugar's lead.

so long!

# peloflex says :
11 September, 2008 [ 16:39 ]

rice and sugar,

I am afraid you don't even know who Francisco Bolognesi is...  only that would explain your lack of respect to him.

You say I never read your messages right?

Take a look at your very first sentence.

"I DOUBT WE WILL QUALIFY FOR WORLD CUP...."

We are only half way through this whole two year qualification process and you are already saying you doubt? we are still 10 games away from the end... that's 30 points!!!

All I can think is that you either have a crystal ball or you are just another pathetic loser. Don't try to blame me for whatever image you represent with your own words.

# Alfredo says :
11 September, 2008 [ 16:59 ]

Peloflex is right, we're only half way through and there's a looooong way to go. If Peu keeps playing the way they did last night, there's nothing that can stop us. We're hungry!! We haven't been to a World Cup since the 80's. 2010 is our year and we proved that these past two games. Let's have faith in these new boys!!

# Mike says :
11 September, 2008 [ 17:04 ]

peloflex;

Given the team's past, and even the fresh talent, a fan needs to examine any team's chances of making it to a particular goal.

For example; I am a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles (in the USA, American Football).  At some point last year, things were going very badly for them, but mathematically, it was still possible for them to make it to the championship.

Did I say, "Hey, they're going to make it!"  No.  As big a fan as I am, I didn't set myself up for disappointment.  Instead, I set my expectations to be as realisitic as I could.  "OK, it's possible, but not very likely."  I watched the rest of games for the year, and cheered them on, but realized what was most likely going to happen.

What does this do?  First of all, I wouldn't (and didn't) feel a big emotional let-down when they did not make it.  Secondly, I set myself up for a big uplift, or thrill, if they did make it.

You have to remember peloflex, we aren't the team.  We are the fans.

# peloflex says :
11 September, 2008 [ 17:24 ]

Mike,

I know that technic... and I don't share it. I am sorry, I rather be brave and take it as a man, I rather take it in the chest if it comes to that. we shall not always win... we shall always fight!

If it was true what you say about the past of things... Peru as a country should still have terrorism and stayed underground with debt... but no, things change for good sometimes...

Perhaps the part that you don't understand is that this is not about "teams"... this is about our country, and on top of being a fan I am Peruvian and I must stay put until the end. I don't mind having to pay my $30 to see my country lose. hey! my 30 bucks is nothing compared to all the players do on the field and the very least I can do is to think possitive and pray for them.

Mike, Rice and Sugar.

If Vargas had had the same attitude as you guys. we would have lost the game.

# Raphael says :
11 September, 2008 [ 22:51 ]

pelo,

I will seriously bet you 20 grand that Peru will NOT make the World Cup.  Not with this squad, and this management.  You kidding me? Argentina wasn't even in full force. They weren't 100%, and all we could do was tie them!

You know your team is REALLY bad when you celebrate a tie as if it were a win.  Yes the boys did play with heart, and seeing them play the way they did on the pitch last night made me damn proud.  But lets be realistic.  You want them to go to the world cup for what? For them to get embarassed on the world stage? get out of here.

If you're not willing to bet then don't even bother responding...

# Oliver says :
12 September, 2008 [ 01:56 ]

hehehe relax raphael.

We all know that the chances are slim. But there are different people in this world some are glass half empty some are glass half full. What we are talking about here is that we want Peru to win in order to provide us with national pride. Thats what soccer teams and sporting teams do.

As for Argentina not being 100% yes correct but neither was Peru. And if and whats whatever. The way that Peru played that game deserved respect and admiration from its fans.

# Raphael Cotrina says :
12 September, 2008 [ 12:06 ]

True,
I'll tell you this though...
The squad that played against Argentina that night had WAY more heart and strength, and skill, then Guerrero, Farfan, or Pizzaro will ever have.  This team was playing with pride, something that these three clowns have forgotten all about ever since being slapped with millions of Euros.  Next up to be ruined before he even starts is Manco...
That kid is already showing signs...

# Mike says :
12 September, 2008 [ 12:31 ]

The argument isn't whether the glass is half full or half empty - it is whether or not the glass exists.

# peloflex says :
12 September, 2008 [ 13:57 ]

Raphael,

I get the feeling that you are one of those peruvians, most likely from Lima that speak with an argentinian accent and think of argentinians as they are gods... jajaa... I feel so sorry for people like you...

And to be honest I don't have the slightest interest to interact with someone like you, so save it!

# rice and sugar says :
12 September, 2008 [ 14:09 ]

Dear Peloflex,
Having a bad hair day today?

I love the passion in your writing. You are so explosive and visceral. I remember agreeeing with you on other subjects, so I will forgive you your insults ("loser", "a shame for Peru", etc.).
However, if Peru qualifies to the Wold Cup, I will be first one to celebrate - just like you.
Johan Fano, Juan Vargas - they are great players. I have faith that they will fight "hasta quemar el ultimo cartucho".

But I am REALISTIC - that is all. Viva el Peru!

# peloflex says :
12 September, 2008 [ 18:34 ]

Rice and Sugar,

I am glad to see that you want to be on the most positive side of things. Thank you!

What most people in here don't realize (perhaps their heavily pesimistic attitude don't let them) is that with all the problems we had to go through with the scandals and suspensions and all... we have actually touched rock bottom and things could never get any worse. but as awlays... after the storm.... there is the calm...

Now we have discovered all the new talent we have, players like Zambrano and Sanchez... Alva... they can really play and they have the courage, but that doesn't end there... Now the so called "super stars" will never give for granted their participation and would have to fight for it as it always should have been. The result? we would end up having good quality players like Guerrero and Farfan sitting on the bench waiting for their chance to get up and play... on man! I really look forward to that, cause no one can doubt what they are capable of doing under the right circumstances.

The most positive balance is that Del Solar was not removed and now he has this good results that give him the respect among the players. removing Del Solar would have postpone any chance for improvement who knows for how long...

# Cortez says :

Vargas is probably one of, if not the, best players on the Peruvian team.

# Raphael says :

pelo,

You're ASSUMING I'm something I'm not, and with your **** *** assumption, you're coming to a stupid and invalid conclusion.

Why the hell would I praise the args?  I have no problems with any other countries but its morons like you that make me ashamed to be Peruvian at times.  From Lima? Try again. Accent? Pfft. Riiight...

Feel sorry for me?  Brother, I give you my word that I'm probably more educated and successful then you'd ever dream of being.
So sit back, and try again.

# peloflex says :
13 September, 2008 [ 21:35 ]

it's all about perception, MY WELL EDUCATED FREN!... LOL!

Based on your reaction, it's obvious that I hit it right in the nail...
the fact that you are so very well educated and successful doesn't mean that I can't feel sorry for you, the only word that is going to save you from being COMPLETELY WRONG is that you said "probably" ... so yes, you are right about that .... you are PROBABLY more educated and successful... and I don't mind you thinking that way as long as you quit trying to immitate the argentinias and quit putting them on a pedestal. (read your own comment when you said that they weren't at a 100%... that equals praising to me)

just take a deep breath and play some tango, so you can relax a bit.. :)

# peloflex says :
13 September, 2008 [ 21:47 ]

Cortez,

You are right, Vargas has a lot of power and knows how to use it... that makes him a very valuable player, but please consider Rainer Torres as a possible candidate to be top on the list. I have watched the game three times already, he's just a little machine who doesn't know about giving up, reminds me of Jayo Legario on his good years.

# Raphael says :

So... you wont take me on for those 20 gees then?
You my friend are a shmuck. If it had been say Venezuela or Brazil or any other country who wasn't playing at 100% of their game, I would have said the exact same thing.  You call that idolizing?
You're running off in a completely different direction here with this assumption of arg praisal argument. Try and stay with me here.  Either that or quit changing the topic and give me a yes or no answer on a bet since you seem to love to type so much behind your safe closed doors of your mud hut, or internet cafe or whatever it is you use to get online.

Or maybe YOU'RE the one living in Lima with that whole fake accent BS you were talking about? Nevermind, I highly doubt that.

Why the back paddling now? Answer my questions you little eager beaver.  Wait... I thought you were done with me? Whatever happened to:

"why would I keep on going with this? I don't even find needed to pay attention to your BS." or "To all the nice people I met here, although not many but some, I say Fairwell"?

If you dont even have a spine to give me YOUR name then why talk smack online? What are you, some 15 year old coward who only grows a back bone when your behind the safety of your computer screen? Admit that and I'll leave you alone, but until then, we can keep this going, and I'll just keep pulling your card.

Let's see if you'll actually be relevant with your response and not come with no corny jokes or cheap insults.  Grow a back bone sonny! Otherwise who's ever gonna take you serious? Didn't mommy or daddy ever teach you that?

# peloflex says :
19 September, 2008 [ 18:24 ]

look, if growing a back bone means I will be entitled to attack mom's and dad's while I am on a fight... then I had it all wrong since the very beggining. As far as I know... whoever brings mom or dad into a fight is the coward... and for the records... this is the second time you do that.

And as far as I can remember, I saw that happening a lot during my high school years... exactly the 15 year old cowards that you mentioned on your last post.

Lastly, if that fact that I am still here and playing your game (having some fun) really bothers you... and you want to be the one having the last word... oh boy you are even more boring that what I thought...

And since I dont like involving parents in here, I would recommend that you go and look for your older brother or best friend and ask him to explain to you the basics of internet usage. first golden rule "never give out your name to strangers" specially if your name is not as comon as Letrina. hmm! I mean Cotrina. Cool

# Raphael says :

I asked you if your parents taught you somethng. I didnt say anything foul... maybe the first time around but fine... we'll leave mom and dad out of this.

So in other words, youre the typical braveheart internet thug when you know its a safe fact that you'll most likely never have to come face to face with me right?  You had me laughing out loud with that whole "fairwell... im done with you" crap, because I can tell that without this, you have nothing else.

I can see right through a mark like you, and I can tell the way you dance around anything that I ask or say to you, avoiding the fact  that youre a nobody wishing you were somebody, and if you dont win this argument or get the last word, then what else is left for you?

Right? I'd say a safe bet would be that you'll respond not becuase you choose to, but because you HAVE to. You're not gonna let that Cotrina guy talk to YOU like that are you!? Must be sad knowing that DEEP down inside, youre always going to be that guy that never had the heart to ever face anyone in REAL life.  Especially me. Not EVER.

How did I know this was going to happen sooner or later? ... no wonder people always pride my common sense.... I was expecting that from you like 2+2 equals 4...now I am gay... LOL!!!

You know what? I don't have a problem with you or anyone else calling me gay or homo, little boy, I went through that barrier loong time ago... but looks like for you it is still a big deal... to be or not to be?... I bet it would traumatic someone calling you homo, well, I won't call you a homo simply because that would be totally irrelevant to this thread, so even if you are one, you could still be smarter than me and be right about the topic. Of course, that's a no to both.

And once again, my little street clown from Plaza San Martin, I am going to try to be the bigger guy here, so slurp your drool and pay close attention:

Going back and focus on the main topic here... these are you own words from last nite... "Peru is not making the World Cup... and if myself or anyone here doesnt agree with your pipe dreams, then learn to deal with it properly and maybe I wont make you look like a complete *** again...."
Ok, as far as anyone here can go back on the thread and check how this whole senseless arguement has started. So go on and read what Oliver wrote for you after your first post.
Do you really think that entering the thread , going into making an unkwown assesment and acting like you know it all and on top of that, showing off about how much money you have or you dont was the proper way of dealing with other people's opinion? COME ON!!!

If you were an argentinian, I would totaly be cool about it. only then it would make sense that you are trying to say they tie BECAUSE THEY DIDNT PLAY WELL... THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT ARGENTINIANS DO EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY CAN'T WIN.  THEY ARE NEVER GOOD AT ACCEPTING THAT THE OTHER TEAM DID A GOOD JOB. NEVER!!!!

Oliver was absolutely right, no team played at a 100%, and it was childish of you to say that only Argentina was not full force.

I have never said that Peru will make it. GO AND READ! I did not say that because I dont know and if you being peruvian say that is because you are a loser, plain and simple.

Also, you saying that Peru shouldn't even try to go there because it would be embarrasing... guy you know very little about futbol and sports in general. This is a very long process and anything can happen, teams become teams match after match...
Costa Rica was on the world cup recently... were they embarrased? I dont think so. they didnt win, but they were there and that's what counts.

Lastly, sticking to your own words, if you disaprove the fact that we celebrate a tie and you think that's so terribly wrong? .. .AGAIN YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FUTBOL...  which is a highly psycological sport, but you would have to be a player or a former futboler to understand that.

You see? I am taking the time to examine your entries and being condescendent with. now is your turn to put in practice all your recommendations about growing a back bone or whatever and come tell me who is the one who did not know how to deal with other people's opinion and/or feelings.
