The Simpsons visit Machu Picchu in Cusco, Peru

Living in Peru
Israel J. Ruiz

As Machu Picchu becomes increasingly popular, more and more celebrities choose to visit the Inca Citadel and be engulfed by the Peruvian city's magical wonder.

Aside from backpackers and everyday tourists, Cusco, the "Bellybutton of the World", has been visited by celebrities such as Bill Gates, Cameron Diaz, Alicia Keys, Olivia Newton John and many others. To this list, we can now add The Simpsons.

In a recent episode of the U.S. animated sitcom, Homer, Marge and their children set off on the vacation of a lifetime only to lose Bart in the city which was recently named one of the wonders of the world.

While the story of the Incas was exaggerated and historically inaccurate, the show was enjoyed by millions of U.S. fans, reported Terra News.

The show starts with Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie atop llamas in Cusco. Homer chews on coca leaves in the hopes of finding his lost son in the city of Machu Picchu.

This episode, which was written by John Frink and guest starred Denis Leary and Brian Grazer, is called "Lost Verizon" and is part of The Simpsons twentieth season.

Israel;

I assume you heard about the episode second-hand, because your description of the plot was pretty far off.  The show did not focus on MP - it was more of a side-journey for a few minutes near the very end.

Cameron Diaz visited to film a tv show that aired recently - she wasn't on a "personal" trip so much as being paid to appear on the show.

____

Just to let you know, the Inca warriors fought against Pizarro's army until the end, and didn't do any woop woop woop woop sound. Our people isn't coward at all.

At least they give our country a better image than South Park.

Well, to some extent they fought.  I don't think it is a matter of them being cowards or not.  And that has nothing to do with the Simpsons episode, certainly.
