Three of the top fifteen hotels in South America can be found in Peru, said the last edition of the travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveler.

32,000 of the magazines readers, which chose a hotel in Cusco as their favorite, were surveyed to put together this list of top hotels.

According to the survey, the best hotel in South America is Hotel Monasterio in Cusco (right), an honor this establishment has held since 2005.

The JW Marriott Hotel Lima was ranked in ninth, while readers chose the Libertador Palacio del Inka Cusco Hotel as their twelfth favorite place for accommodation.

"These rewards distinguish destinations, accommodations and means of transportation that surpass our expectations," said Klara Glowczewska, the Editor in Chief of Condé Nast Traveler.

Aside from placing these hotels in top spots, Condé Nast Traveler readers chose Cusco as their sixth favorite place to visit in the Americas.

With over 3.1 million readers, the magazine was recently named one of the ten most important magazines in the United States by Adweek and Advertising Age and is one of only three magazines that are listed by both companies.

Complements and praise to these hotels!  Peru is moving up in the world!  These hotels will do well in the future with this endorsement and others like it.

For those of us less inclined to part with $300 a night for the JW Marriott, I'd like to suggest the Radisson Decapolis in Miraflores. I stayed there in August for $125 a night and it was worth every penny. Newly renovated, it is on par with any 4-star hotel I've stayed in the US and, perhaps better than most Radissons I've stayed in.
